Pradeep De Silva

CHAIRMAN

Pradeep De Silva is a senior civil engineer with over 20 years of experience in major infrastructure projects across the UK and Sri Lanka. He holds a BSc in Civil Engineering from the University of Peradeniya. His expertise spans reinforced concrete structures, highways, tunnelling, piling, and quality management. He has worked on Crossrail, Thames Tideway, Hinkley Point C, London Power Tunnels 2, Silvertown Tunnel, and HS2—both with Align JV and currently with BBV (N1/N2). He serves as the Global Alumni Ambassador (UK) for the University of Peradeniya and is the Immediate Past President and Vice Patron of SSLES UK.

Varuna De Silva

VICE CHAIRMAN

Varuna De Silva obtained his Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering from University of Surrey in 2011. As a Post-doctoral Research Fellow, Varuna worked as a work package leader of a Large-Scale Integrated Projects “ROMEO”, and “BATS” funded by the European Commission. He currently leads the Machine Intelligence Lab at Loughborough University and is the supervisor of one post-doctoral research fellow and 7 Ph.D. students, and have graduated 7 PhD students as the supervisor and also holds a prestigious UKRI fellowship on which he acts as the thematic research lead in AI and digital technologies for the UK Parliament.

Harsha Appuhami Ralalage

GENERAL SECRETARY

Harsha Appuhami Ralalage obtained his BSc Engineering degree in Electrical and Information from the University of Ruhuna in 2005 with a First Class. He completed his PhD in Cross-Layer Design for Scalable/3D Wireless Video Transmission over IP Networks in 2014 from Kingston University, London. Harsha works as a Product Manager and Senior Solution Expert in the telecommunications industry.

Rajitha Weerakkoddy

TREASURER

Rajitha Weerakkody received his BSc (Eng) degree in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, in 2000, and PhD in Video Compression Technologies from the University of Surrey, UK, in 2008. He has over 16 years of experience in the TV broadcast industry, having worked with leading organizations such as the BBC and Sky UK.

Jayantha Ranthilaka

ASSISTANT GENERAL SECRETARY / MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY

Galpoththage Jayantha Ranthilaka obtained his BSc Engineering degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, in 2006 with second class. He completed his chartered Engineering qualification in 2016. Jayantha works as a Chief Engineer and as a bridge engineer.

Sandhya Weerasekara

ASSISTANT TREASURER

Sandhya Weerasekara obtained his BSc Engineering degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Ruhuna in 2006. Sandhya is a Chartered Civil and Environmental Engineer with 17+ years of experience.

Lahiru Dissanayake

PUBLICITY SECRETARY

Lahiru Nuwanga Dissanayake obtained his BSc Engineering degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Peradeniya in 2021 with a First Class. He completed his MSc in Structural Engineering in 2023 at the University of Peradeniya. Lahiru is currently pursing his PhD in Advanced Steel Structures at Imperial College London.

Upesh Kulatunge is an experienced Software professional having 15+ years of hands-on-experience in architecting, designing, implementing and integrating enterprise software solutions. He holds BSc Engineering specialised in Production Engineering and MSc in Computer Science from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.

An experienced Chartered Civil Engineer with over 23 years of experience in the field of water and wastewater in Sri Lanka and the UK. Chandana obtained his BSc Engineering degree in Civil Engineering with honours from the University of Peradeniya in 1999. Obtained a Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering Designs and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. Chandana is a Fellow member and International Professional Engineer of the IESL.

Graduated at the University of Ceylon in Civil Engineering in 1969; Diploma in Applied Quantitatve Methods at the University of Sri Lanka in 1972 (DAQM); Chartered Corporate Member in 1973, Institute of Civil Engineers, UK; Corporate member of Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation in 1980. BSc Eng; DAQM; C Eng; MICE; MCIHT. Worked at State Engineering Corporation from 1969 for 3.5 yrs as a Site Engineer, Resident Agent and a Design Engineer on multi storied buildings before emigrating to the UK in 1973. In the U.K, having engaged in the building sector as a Senior Site Engineer at the beginning, switched to the design, supervision and maintenance of  bridges and tunnels. Worked in the private sector in the design of bridges and tunnels and also supervision of construction of highways in Nigeria as a Principal Resident Engineer for 4.5 years.  Worked in Bangladesh and North Yemen as a Technical Expert on funded projects. Worked for over 10 years as a Senior Structural Adviser to the Highways Agency, (now Highways England) and finally as a Technical Approval Manager attached to the Transport for London, before retirement.

Ponniah Gnananandan

Ponniah Gnananandan graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Peradeniya in 1969 and became a Chartered Engineer in 1973. Joined the Sri Lanka Railway Department in 1970. He was instrumental in pioneering the first prestressed concrete gantry girder for the Railway Workshop at Ratmalana and designed and cast 22 beams for Sri Lanka’s first concrete railway bridge. Internationally, He served as a Senior Site Engineer in London on the Underground Jubilee Line Extension at Stratford Depot, Yard, and Workshop, as well as on the prestigious construction of The Queen’s Gallery (Millennium Building) at Buckingham Palace. With the support of SSLES, He submitted a proposal to the President of Sri Lanka to modernize the Maho Railway Station—a project yet to receive action from the Railway Department. He started this project in1985. Additionally, SSLES will soon present my recent report aimed at reducing rubbernecking during highway accidents to the appropriate authorities.

Milantha Randeniya

Milantha is a qualified Civil Engineer, having graduated from South Eastern University of Sri Lanka in 2019. He hold a Master’s degree in Construction Project Management, which He completed with distinction in 2023. With over five years of industry experience, He have developed a strong background in infrastructure and tunneling projects. Currently, He is employed as a Site Engineer with Byrne Brothers, where he is involved in the Bromford Tunnel Intermediate Shaft—part of the UK’s flagship High Speed 2 (HS2) rail project.

Indike Rathnayaka

Indika graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Peradeniya in 2007 and became a Chartered Engineer through the Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka. He earned a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Open University of Sri Lanka and obtained his legal professional qualification from the Sri Lanka Law College. In 2021, Indika was admitted as an Attorney-at-Law in the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka. He has worked with several major Sri Lankan and international construction companies, gaining extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution within the construction industry. Indika currently serves as a Research Contracts Manager at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.

Rusiru Rajakaruna

Rusiru is a Mechanical Engineer with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Peradeniya (2017) and a Master’s degree in Project Management from Northumbria University (2024). Currently, he serves as an Engineering Trainer at IPS International Ltd. Additionally, he has work experience in academic field at the Faculty of Technology, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka and Faculity of Engineering, University of Peradeniya. Further, he has involved in several engineering projects, for design, simulation, and analysis part.

Pradeep De Silva is a qualified civil engineer with over 18 years of construction experience across Heavy Civil Engineering, Tunnels, RC frames, Residential, and Highways. Pradeep got his BSc degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Peradeniya in 2004 and is a member of AMIE (SL), the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) and the British Tunnelling Society (BTS).

Jayasundera has been actively involved and significantly contributing in the global engineering and infrastructure development industry and delivering in particular of electrical discipline and building services engineering and for well over 35 years. He is a CEng MCIBSE, MIET and MIESL Grad Dip(Eng), MSc(Eng).

Kalana Jayatiallake is a Chemical and Process Engineer who passed out from the University of Moratuwa in 2016 with a Second Upper Class. He worked as a Process Control Manager at AEN Palm Oil Processing (Pvt) Ltd. for more than six years. He successfully completed his first master’s degree in Manufacturing Management at Colombo University with a Merit pass in 2023. He is currently studying for his second master’s degree at the University of West of England in the engineering management field in the United Kingdom.

Saman Kumara obtained his BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ruhuna in 2008. Saman is a PMP-certified Project Manager and a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with 15 years’ experience in the water and wastewater industries. Saman worked in Qatar as a Senior Mechanical Engineer in the Wastewater Sector from 2010 to 2019 and is currently engaged with Mott Macdonald UK as a Project Leader for Welsh Water.

Gayathri De Silva obtained her BTech (Hons.) in Engineering in the field of Civil Engineering from the Open University of Sri Lanka in 2020. holding publications in Springer Nature in 2020 and ResearchGate in 2022. She worked as a QAQC Assistant Engineer at the Waterfront Integrated Resort Project (Access Engineering PLC) and as a Civil Engineer (Consultancy) at the State Engineering Corporation. Also, as a visiting lecturer at the University of Vocational Technology. She is currently studying for her master’s degree at the University of the West of England in Construction Project Management in the United Kingdom.

She worked as a Trainee Civil Engineer at ICC (International Construction Consortium) and N&A Engineering.  As a Civil Engineer she worked at Access Engineering Pvt Ltd and  Soil Tech Pvt Ltd .
